A reef-break beach famous for its black volcanic sand and the consistent waves that earned it Bali's loudest evening crowd.
Opening hours. Outdoor, always accessible.
Best time. Sunset (17:30–18:30) for atmosphere; 06:30–08:00 for the cleanest swell.
Accessibility. Steps down from the warung row. Sand is firm at low tide; wheelchairs can reach the upper viewing deck only.
Etiquette. Strong rip current — swim only between the red-and-yellow flags. Surfers have priority on the reef break; novices stay inside.
Weather. Wet season (Nov–Mar) brings frequent debris on the shoreline.
Echo Beach earned its name from the reef-bounce — the surf hits the volcanic shelf and bounces back loud enough that you can hear it from the warung row up top. It's the surf-and-sunset anchor of the strip.
Tips
- If you're not a confident surfer, watch from the rocks. The break is not for beginners.
- Sunset crowd builds fast after 17:00. Grab a warung table by 16:30.
